Transaction sculptures are a series the artist 0xfff has made since 2018. Each consists of an arrangement of smart contracts that forward incoming transactions to other contracts (or to themselves) according to their own rules. Anyone can activate a sculpture by sending a small amount of ETH to its address, and every activation yields a different result. Vertical lines represent contracts and horizontal lines the transfers between them; the complete visual arrangement is always one transaction, the most recent. The series treats computation as material rather than as a tool, making the work a program whose form changes each time it runs.

Examples

Diminishing Returns (2026) consists of thirty-two contracts that forward transactions to one another. Each transfer wears down the connection it uses, so with repeated use transactions tend to follow shorter paths. Random changes can reverse a connection or make a worn one usable again. The sculpture also degrades over time, and the degradation is applied at the next activation. All ETH sent through it is returned. It was made for "An Exhibition of Auto-Destructive Art" at NEORT++ in October 2026.
